Ceramics Edttor’s Corner An exciting summer ahead with the Tozan kiln project, the many fairs and events to participate in, As usual, the Newsletter will not be published in July and August but will be back in September. Look for a fall full of activities by the Guild. The Workshop Committee has arranged workshops with Sadashi Inuzuka, Ruth Duckworth and our own Sarah Coote. This is my last Newsletter. My career as Administrator and Editor has been brief, but by-in-large pleasant. The Guild is in the process of accessing its direction and the needs of the community it serves. Your continued support of the Guild and the Gallery is needed and most appreciated. [| have enjoyed mecting and working for you and hope to continue friendships that have been recently founded as I try to devote more time to my own studio work. | want to thank Jan Kidnie, Coralie Triance, and Tam Irving for their help and guidance through my six months with the Guild. Thanks to Wyn Yang who did the mailing chores last month. Gillian McMillan was briefly and understandably absent from her mailing post (excuse the pun) because she had just completed her graduating show at Emily Carr College a few days before. Congratulations Gillian, and thanks for doing the mailing this month. Thanks also to Pat Webber, Coralie Triance, and Keith Rice-Jones - our contributors for this month. News from the Gallery 1 would like to welcome Tony Hermsen to the Gallery of B,C, Ceramics on Granville Island. Tony is the most recent candidate accepted by the jury in April, He lives in Enderby B.C, and works in series producing raku baskets and bowls, Gillian McMillan is welcomed back to the Gallery. After attending Emily Carr College for three years, Gillian is once again producing and we lack forward to having her new pots on display. The featured work in the Gallery at this time is second year student work from Capilano College. These students demonstrate a very high level of technical competency. Their instructor, Sam Kwan, is bringing out the finest in them and this is demonstrated in their level of skill in throwing and their glazing of the final product. The exhibit runs to the 19th of June. Make a point of coming down to see just how good the new batch of potters are! Sales in April and May have been very good. There is an increase in sales of 36% for April and 68% for May over the same months in 1993. We hope that this trend continues through the remainder of the year. Sales have not been this good for some time. Thanks to Lea and Karou for their continued support, assistance and help in making things work for us. We are looking forward to a busy summer, Don't forget to work on some ideas over the summer for the "Stems ‘n Steins" show in November. Our fall line up of shows include Keith Rice-Jones in September and Denys James in October. Have a good summer and we at the Gallery look forward to seeing you whenever you come to Granville Island.
