V6B 1E5 NEWSLETTER March 1976 Dear Potters, Our next General Meeting will be held at 8 p.m. on March 17# at the Unitarian Church at 49% and Oak Street in Vancouver. PROGRAM: A continuation of the panel discussion on kilns. This is a+- very broad topic and it was impossible to discuss all the problems and questions that were presented at the last meeting. It was suggest- ed that you present written questions to the panel to provide a dir- ection of discussion. If you have some pots which will illustrate your problem please bring them to the meeting. Aprojector will be available so if you have some slides relating to kiln-building or firing bring them along. LIBRARY: Our librarian, Frances Fraser, has acquired some excellent new books plus a few copies of Ceramic Review. Many books were returned at the last meeting but two books are missing. One, a small square book about Japanese Pottery, printed in Japanese, the other "Throwing on the Potters Wheel" by Thomas Sellers. ARTS and CRAFTS SHOW, ALERT BAY: On April 24%-25%, the Mount Waddington Regional Arts Council is sponsoring an Arts and Crafts Show, to be held in "Namges House" (the old school residence). VON 1A0. Phone (974-5219. AONE MAN SHOW of CERAMICS by WALTER DEXTER opens March 18% at the Centennial Arts Centre: 13750 - 88t Ave. Surrey. Tel. 596-7461. This show will run until April 4. A SHOU by THREE POTTERS opens at the HOUSE of CERAMICS, 565 Hamilton St., Vancouver, at 7.30 pom. on March 15% and runs to March 27%, Debra Sloan, Elspeth Baird and Elinor Vassar will show a varied collection of work ranging from functional, including dinner ware, to ceramic sculpture. JIM HURT, a POTTER from CALIFORNIA, will exhibit ceramic sculpture at the HOUSE of CERAMICS. This show will open at 7.30 pom. on March 298 and run. to April 10%. WORKSHOPS: The John Chalke workshop at Douglas College on Feb. 21st was much enjoyed by about twenty people. Also at Douglas College will be Les Manning, March 20% and 2%st, then John Reeve on April 10%. The fee for these workshops is $5.00 for each day. Jean Boggs at the Queen Elizabeth Playhouse at 2 pom. on March 23rd. This 1 ecture is sponsored by the Women's Canadian Club.
