Terrace ran into trouble even before the first kick-off, four last minute withdrawals reducing _ them to10 players, That left them facing the double - disadvantage of playing one short - all game. and with no possibility - OF substitutes. Despite the unequal odds, the Hardware definitely team were able to hold Vernon scoreless for 75 minules of their opening game. However, fatigue and Vernon’s ability to substitute told in the end, Vernon firing in four goals in the final quarter hour as they began their march to the title. Terrace then took on host team Williams Lake and put up a Spirited performance, narrowly going down 2-1. Although that eliminated them from the tourney, their sports- manship and perseverance earned Terrace the Mabel Mansfield Memorial trophy. Another recent TYSA winner is Lara Tessaro who hes been awarded the $300 Fraser valley referee soccer scholarship in recognition of her contribution to youth soccer as both a player and volunteer referce, This weekend sees teams from across the norlh congregate here for the Riverboat Days Invita- tional soccer toumament. -New pool was inspirational Jamie Kerman WHEN THEY watch the Com- monwealth Games swimming events this summer, Jamie and Chris Kerman ate going to know exactly what it feels like to stand on those blacks. . That’s because this year’s ‘Senior provincials were held in the new Commonwealth pool in Victoria. And ihe settling obviously in- spired Jamie. Recording personal best times in all but one event, he also tumed in an excellent 50m Fly to end up as first alternate for the final. For Chris, the trip was a chance to enjoy his surroundings and work on a few things in prepara- tion for next season. Chris was a victim of the qualification age rules this year. Despite an’ ex- cellent season, the timing of his 13th birthday meant he was. ex- cluded from both the 11-12 and 13-14 age group championships, leaving only the seniors where he was thrown in with much older swimmers. However, coach Mike Carlyle was well pleased with Chris’ per- formance. Lambert on target again IT’S BECOMING a habit but not one Sarah Lambert is likely to worry about.
