: Local bowlers win gold medal Two Terrace bowlers were part of a B.C. five- pin team that won gold medals at Hamilton, On- tario on the weekend. Robin Evans and Over 80 participate: Golf Toumey - The championship of the annual Skeena Valley Men's Open 54-hole golf tournament went. right down to the wire with two Kitimat competitors battling it out for overall low gross honors. When the score cards had been tallied, Dave Bolton was the cham- pion with a 222 score. He finished one stroke up on clubmate Ron Venman, who had to be satisfied with gross honors in the championship flight. Overall low net honors went to Prince Rupert’s Teru Yamamoto with his 195 score. Skeena Valley pro- manager Dan Rosengren posted the third best gross score of 225 and took the runnerup spot behind Venman. Mel Euverman won the low net for the championship flight with a 202.°: Softball Skeena Hotel scored a 28-11 victory over Pizza Patio to win the four- team Terrace Ladies’ Softball Tournament on the June 28 weekend. It was originally set as a five-team series, but the Kitimat entry drop- ped out at the last minute. This left four local teams and they played: a round-robin setup, followed by a single elimination playoff. ‘In the semi-finals, Skeena took Shear Magic 27-7 while the Piz- za gals outscored Donna’s Cut and Curl 21-16. In the playoff for third and fourth, Donna’s beat Shear Magic 22-8. Scores from the round-robin were as follows Pizza 24 Magic 7; Skeena 37, Donna’s 14; Skeena 28, Magic 12; Donna’s 11, Pizza 10; Donna’s 24, Magic 18; Skeena 14, Pizza 11. Meanwhile, at Prince Rupert the hometown Rainettes won a best-of- three intermediate ‘‘B’’ zone final over Terrace Stealers in two straight games to win a berth in provincial finals next month. The scores were 8-0 and 3-2. -Kitimat’s Clayton Harris was next at 203. In the first flight, Jim Rigler shot a 247 for gross honors. He finish- ed one stroke up on Doug Little. Darcy Mallet won low net with a 199. Andy Ruygrok was second at 205. — Nick Federenko took low gross in the second flight, five strokes ahead of runnerup Derek Har- dacker. For net honors with a 200 score it was Scotty MclIlmoyle, then Ron McKenzie with a 204. _ Ray Demers shot 284 to win the third flight gross. Dave .Comfort’s 286 gave him second place. Frank Hamilton took low net with 201, with Kitimat’s Mike Wilson second at 207.. Bighty-seven golfers took part in the three- day series. | Riverboat | With Riverboat Days celebrations close at hand, plans for various events are starting to be announced. One of the major events is the Molson’s Men’s slo- pitch series with games at Riverside and Rotary Parks. Organizers are charg- ing a $250 entry fee this year, and have set July 28 for the deadline. The tournament runs from August 1 to 4. Teams are guaranteed at least four games. Prize money will run from four to $5,000 depending on the number of entries, and there’s at least $2,000 for first place.
