Local 1-424, Prince George, and Local 1-423, Kelowna, approved the proposal at their recent Annual Meetings. The purpose of the programme is to improve the working and living standards of woodworkers in the Southern States while at the same time protecting con- ditions of IWA members in British Columbia. The programme is voluntary on local unions. While the plan calls for the donations for a four year period, the locals have the right to review the programme from year to year and drop out if they desire. The ninety-nine delegates also dealt with a number of other resolutions, ap- proved the Officers’ and Financial Reports, elected delegates to forth-coming conventions and conferences and heard from the guest speakers. Speakers included Regional 3rd Vice-President_ Neil Menard, Local 1-425 . President Harvey Arcand and Ron Anderson, NDP-Federal candidate. Menard spoke on the Union’s Drug and Alcohol Abuse Programme, which is gaining keen interest among IWA members. He stated that the programme is still in the formative stage but the Union was determined to have it running well in the near future.
