THE CORRORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM Mr. B.R. Kirk March 13, 1991 MAR 18 1991 City Administrator File No. 7/91 ' Carlos Felip Director of Planning 2614 Shaughnessy Street - Poco Cabaret Liquor Licence Application RECOMMENDATION : That the Liquor Control and Licencing Branch be informed that: The Municipal Council of the City of Port Coquitlam supports the operation of the Poco Cabaret, with seating restricted to a maximum of 225 seats; and The Municipal Council of the City of Port Coquitlam is considering an application from Poco Cabaret Ltd. to increase seating to 325 seats, and that a Public Hearing on this application will be held on April 15, 1991. BACKGROUND «. On Monday, March 4, 1991 the Municipal Council rejected an application from Poco Cabaret Ltd. to increase the capacity of their cabaret from 225 seats to 325 seats. On the days following the Council meeting Poco Cabaret Ltd. approached the Liquor Control and Licencing Branch in order to obtain an approval to begin their operation with 225 seats, as per the decision of Council. The Liquor Control and Licencing Branch notified Poco Cabaret Ltd. that, due te the size of their current facilities and the fact that they had previously only received a preliminary approval to their liquor licence 225 seats, they would not be able to begin operations until the Council of Port Coquitlam formally approved an increase seating to 325 seats. On March 14, 1991 the Planning Department was in contact with Mr. Peter Loudon, Inspector in charge of the Liquor Control and Licencing Branch. Mr. Loudon advised the Planning Department that it was not the intention of the Liquor Control and Licencing Branch to stop the operation of Poco Cabaret, and that perhaps the branch needed some clarification as to Council's position. Mr. Loudon indicated that, should Council pass a resolution as the one uoted in the recommendation section of this report, the Liquor Control and Licencing Branch would be in a position to allow the operation of the Poco Cabaret, with a restriction to occupying only the main floor, thus effectively limiting the capacity to approximately 225 seats. oe a/ ITEM
