City Engineer SUBJECT: Household Hazardous Wastes Collection Event Recommendations: 1. That Council approve the participation of the City of Port Coquitlam in the Regional Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event to be held on October 27th and 28th at the B.C. Transit site at Coquitlam Centre. That Council approve the expenditure of $11,000.00 from the Environmental Protection Budget for this purpose. Background & Comments: The Environmental Protection Committee reviewed the GVS&DD Contract for Household Hazardous Waste Collection and noted that Port Coquitlam is scheduled to participate in a household hazardous waste collection event on October 27th and 28th at the B.C. Transit site at Coquitlam Centre. The communities that would participate at this location are Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam, Anmore, Ioco, and Belcarra. The cost sharing for this event is based on an estimate of the number of households that participate as shown on the attached HHW Collection Days - Municipal Data Sheet. Nina Henriksen of the GVRD nected that Port Coquitlam's share of the contract costs would be $5,000.00. Also, Port Coquitlam would be responsible for other incidental costs such as traffic control, fire and police protection, rentals for tents and tables, and provide facilities to dispose of non-hazardous material. [t is estimated that the additional costs would be in the order of $6,000.00 bringing the total cost for this program to $11,000.00.
