Eng. » City Engineer SUBJECT: Water Main Upgrading - 2300 Block McAllister Avenue (Public Works Committee Meeting January 17, 1989) Recommendations: 1. That approximately 110 meters of water main located in the 2300 Block McAllister Avenue be upgraded to 200mm for the estimated cost of $24,000. That the funding sources for this project be as follows: a. Amount to be funded from the DCC (water) Reserve.....$ 8,640 b. Amount to be funded from the City's 1989 Unallocated Water Capital Budget....ccssccesccesceee pid, 350 3. That the amount of DCC (water) payable by the Developer (West Group) be reduced by $16,600. Background and Comments: As part of the requirements of the building permit application for the West Group Development apartments on McAllister Avenue the upgrading of the existing water main is necessary to provide the needed fire flows. The scope of the work involved is the installation of approximately 110 meters of 200 im water pipe. The cost of this work is estimated to be $24,000 of which $16,000 will consist of work to be done by West Group's contractor and $8,000 will be done by City crews. Since this is a legitimate DCC project, the funding for it should follow the cost-sharing formula as stipulated in our Bylaw as follows: 36% of Project ($8,640) are to come from developer's DCC payments towards the DCC (water) Reserve. 64% of Project ($15,350) are to be contributed by the City. The logical funding source to cover the City’s share on this project is from the 1989 Unallocated Water Capital Budget. For the apartment development on McAllister, West Group paid $17,784 in Water Development Cost Charges. In accordance with Section 983(8) of the Municipal Act the developer is entitled to a reduction in his DCC's payable to cover the portion of work which will be done by his contractor at his cost. -1- 16
