SNS THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor and Aldermen March 26, 1987 FROM: Aiderman M.C. Farnworth SUBJECT: Federal Electora!l Red!istribution OR Re eee eee eee ee ee ee ee ee eee ee ee ee RECOMMENDATION: ; THAT Counc! |] protest the recent Federal Redistribution of Misston Port Moody, resulting In the City belng divided between two ridings; AND THAT Counci | pursue this objection through the House of Commons standing Committee on Electoral Redistribution. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: When the first Publle Hearing on redistribution was held in Vancouver, Council! expressed its opposition that the City was to be divided between two seperate Federal Ridings. Council's position was that the City should be [Included in one Federal Riding. The report recentiy tabled by the Federal! Commission, ignored the City's request. While in Ottawa recently, our M.P. Mr. G. St. Germain advised me, that our only recourse at this time 1s to appear before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Electoral Redistribution, and that this Committee, wlll come to the City, where we can state our case.
