AB - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, March 13, 2002 Jet grounded here = gx: AN AIR Canada jet was grounded here nearly all of last week -after one of ils two engines sucked in a foreign chject of some sort, The Fokker F28 en- countered -the problem while landing March 3. Repairs were completed last weekend. Airtine officials said a warning signal notified pi- lots there was trouble shortly after touchdown. “It seemed to appear that just after landing we took on a foreign object af some nature that’ was in- gested into one of the engines,” said Air. Canada Regional official Dennis Erickson. “Al this time -we still have not been able to identify what the foreign object was.” Mechanics were flown in ftom Vancouver to look a the damage but the en- gine was beyond repair and had to be replaced. “It’s not:a-big™ deal,” Erickson said. “But it is a big deal when it’s in a lo- cation that is ‘not near one of our maintenance stations.” a Air Canada Regional’s two closest maintenance bases are in Calgary and Vancouver, . “Logistically it has caused us some. concern,” Erickson said. Because the engines are too iarge to be flown in on the aircraft that service Terrace, the engine had to be trucked in from Cal- Murder charges stayed ’ By SARAH A. ZIMMERMAN A SECOND-DEGREE murder charge laid against a Terrace woman in con- nection with the March 7 death of Lorne Lupick, also from Terrace, has been stayed. “Based on the evidence that we've been able to gather at this time the Crown has entered a stay of proceedings as it ap- pears there would not be substantial likelihood of conviction on that charge,” said RCMP offi- cer Brendan McKenna last week of the charge against Debbie Walker, 39. A stay of proceedings means a charge can be re- vived for up to one year, McKenna did add there are no other charges pend- ing against Debbie. Walker at this time. Walker’s son, Shawn, 18, was transferred to the , Prince George Correction-. al Centre after he was charged with the second degree murder of Lupick, 44, Lupick died of massive head injuries March 2, Police said they respon- ded to a complaint at. the Woodland apartment com- plex (previously known as: the Keystone Apartments) at 4621 Scott Ave. at 2:10 a.m. March 2. Lupick was found lay- ing on the ground in the parking lot just outside the apartment building, Mc- Kenna said. “He had obvious head injuries and he was uncon- scious,” he said. Lupick was taken to Mills Memorial Hospital where he died as a result of massive head injuries. “We don’t know for sure that a weapon was used,” McKenna said, McKenna said Debbie Walker lives in an apart- ment at 4621 Scott Ave. and she and Lupick had an “on-again off-again” rela- tionship. “We've confirmed that. Mr. Lupick was at her resi- dence earlier in the even- ing but we don’t know what the nature of the visit was or all of the details that led to him being found in the parking lot,” Mc- Kenna said, Three members of the RCMP’s North District Major Crime Unit based in Prince George were’ in Terrace assisting local of- tion. ficers with the investiga- | SIERRA CLU 4) COAST MOUNTAIN GROUP + | ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Saturday, March 16, 2002 at 7 p.m. at Knox United Church Members & non-members are invited to ee eee eee eveee a AN AIR Canada F-28 spent most of last week idled at the Terrace airport after something was sucked into ane of its two engines.
