The province is divided into 12 zones, of which Terrace, Kitimat, Prince Rupert and the Queen Charlotte Islands comprise one zone, known as Zone 10. Competitions between the cities in Zone 10 have been concluded and 76 seniors from our zone will be attending the Games. The events included in the Games are five-pin bowling, carpet bowling, lawn bowling, golf, tennis, badminton, table tennis, horseshoes, darts, swimming, duplicate bridge, con- tract bridge, cribbage, chess, slow- pitch ball, snooker, track and field, cycling, floor curling, bag pipes and one-act plays. The Games’ committee is respon- sible for fundraising, registration and transportation and consists of Bud Kirkaldy, zone representative, Fran Lindstrom, treasurer, Evelyn Francis, secretary; and the flam- boyant Bob Goodvin is co-ordina- tor. According to Goodvin, the fundraising has been extremely successful with between $40,000 to $50,000 being raised this year. The seniors are making arrange- ments to,charter two buses for the trip down to Coquitlam and will be staying in hotels for the duration of the Games. Mr. Goodvin stresses the import- ance of the Games for seniors and says that, in his opinion, "the Games are a journey, not a desti- nation. Good health should be a continuing goal for everybody and these Games help to keep them moving and thinking. Sometimes our seniors feel shut out of society, and the Games are an excellent way to keep them involved and active." Mr. Goodvin also men- tioned that they are always looking for new ideas and events for the Games, and he invites anyone with suggestions to contact the commit- tee. They have meetings on the sec- ond Saturday of each month at 2 p.m. in the Happy Gang Centre, and everybody is welcome to attend.
