losing its good credit rating,

starts to lose value on world
money markets.

Treasury Board President
Sinclalr Stavana recently
warned that if current trends
are allowed to continue, 28
centa out of every tax dollar
will be needed by 1892-83-to
pay intereat on the debts the
country is accumulating.

Last year, interest
payments amounted to 16.4
per cent of federal spending
— a larger proportion than
the 12.4 per cent spent on old
age payments, the 8.6 per
cent on defence or the 6.6 per
cent for health care.
