Recent outbreaks of anti-Semitism in West Germany
have outraged the world. That is as it should be.
= But the central fact that is far from sufficiently
‘understood is this: Anti-Semitism and nazism is not con-
fined to shadowy gangs going about in the night painting
‘swastikas on synagogues. The government of the German
Federal Republic is filled with nazis whose hands reek
with the blood of millions of victims, both Jews and others.
Half of the present cabinet in Bonn is made up of men
- who were either members of the Nazi party or officers in
_ Hitler’s armies.
Between these men and.the gangs of swastika paint-
ers there are no differences—only a division of labor.
Together they have put West Germany on the road
back’ to fascism. Already the Communist Party is out- |.
_ lawed, and peace leaders persecuted. Now the pogroms are
commencing again. Now they are speaking more and more
openly of their plans for revenge and war.
These are the forces that have been placed in power
_by the Western policy of re-arming Germany as a “bul-
wark against Communism,” just as Hitler was once re-
armed—and for the same reason. These are the forces that
must be halted and stamped out before it is too late.

Fascists around the world
are being encouraged to crawl
out of their holes by the wave
of anti-Semitism which began
with the defacement of a Col-
ogne synagogue with swastikas
on Christmas Eve and has been
followed by numerous other
outbreaks throughout the Fed-
eral Republic including the

Fellowship is divorced from
party politics;. its principle

ship between the two peoples,
but however much such a pur-
pose is non-political its ful-
fillment must inevitably have
important cOnsequences on

The chairman of the new
German Centre is Prince Fred-
erick of Prussia, who, through
his marriage in 1945 into the
Guinness family, is the broth-
er-in-law of A. T. Lennox-
Boyd, the former Tory Colon-
ial Secretary.

He is the son of “Little Wil-
lie.” the Kaiser’s son who died
in 1951. The same year Fred-
erick, who had called himself
G. Mansfeld after he returned
from internment in 1940 and
became a naturalized British
subject, announced his inten-
tion to adopt the title of Prince
Frederick von Preussen.

The nazis fully approved of
the old Anglo-German Fellow-
ship and a sister association
was set up in Germany, head-
ed by another German of
royal blood, the Duke of Saxe-
Coburg-Gotha. :

Prince Frederick has a
farm at Albury, Hartfordshire.

BERLIN — West Berlin po-
lice dispersed several demon-

against nazi outrages against
Jewish people.

Demonstrators were forced
to roll. up banners saying:
“Stop antiSemitism and
Spreading hatred.”

‘This despite the fact that

anti-Semitic and nazi incidents

in West Berlin are now so
widespread that all Jewish
buildings are being guarded by
the police.

And despite the fact that the
West Berlin City Council has
found it necessary to call a
press conference to announce

what measures it was taking
to combat nazi activities and

The conference was held by
Senator Lippschitz — which
must have been galling for the
man who only a fortnight ago —
was boasting that no anti-
Semetic incidents worthy of
notice would take place in >
West Berlin. ;

The measures he announced
included the arrest of 17 peo-
ple, confiscating of nazi-pro-
paganda, seizure of a printing
press, uniform badges, Hitler-
youth daggers, leather belts
with nazi emblems, tape re-
cording of nazi speeches and
buckets of paint. . \
