Alderman Rankin had proposed a motion to have a straight Yes or No plebiscite where all citizens, including renters, could have their say. The NPA, by this anti-demo- cratic move, is attempting to manoeuvre a situation where if 60 percent of the ratepayers do not vote to acquire the property, they can give all-signals-go to the real estate developers. In moving for the ratepayers vote, alderman Bird said no one seems to have a definite idea what they want. That is grossly inaccurate. A surprisingly large section of the people have made it clear in no uncertain terms they do not want hotels, apartments, or any type of commercial enterprise clogging up the view and the traffic near Stanley Park. Thousands of citizens have had MAY DAY Greetings The Art Bookbinder 540 Homer St. Phone MU 1-4416 Law, Library & Specialty Binding © their views presented to council and unanimously it is agreed the land should become part of the recreational complex of the park.
