In recognizing that this is a citizen's committee funded by the combined budget, I falt that we would identify and expose the need for new initiatives in the community and the critical examination would come from within the committee. Community Policing is a concept that requires more than token input from the community. In reality it. implies that leadership and partnership by the community is an essential requirement in establish- ing standards of policing service that are acceptable, supportable and, most importantly, affordable. I visualize that the name of our current committee would change to Community Policing Committee to more appropriately identify our future initiatives.
