These grants of up to $2,500 are awarded every three months and can be applied for online at www.canadacouncil.ca. I was initially told that they would like to give me the grant but they just didn’t have the budget available. On my return from Australia, I had a pleasant surprise—a letter saying that they had reshuffled their budget Image 4, The Travellers (detail) and I had received the grant after all! For five years he traveled to potteries throughout New Zealand, North America, England, Europe and South Korea, visiting Michael Cardew, spending time engaged as an apprentice at Cornwall Bridge Pottery in Connecticut and frequenting workshops, art schools, galleries and museums. In Robert Barron: Direct From Down Under, Robert shares images and his unique experiences from these travels with us - from firings, pots, kiln building and design (including kilns from Korea and Japan,) the making of Onngi (Korean storage) pots, as well as “Bezarre Spanish Throning Techniques”. He will be making some large pots as well as more imtricate pieces, while talking about the creative process, travel, inspiration and a philosophical approach to making work. Having studied wood firing in many countries and from firing his own 1,000 cubic foot kiln at his Gooseneck Pottery in Kardella, Australia, Robert is also certain to bring a whole new perspective to the firing of our OMBU kiln, in the workshop: Wood Firing With Robert Barron. (Check out his website at www.gooseneckpottery.com) For this workshop, bring cone-10, bisqued pots to fill 4.0 cubic feet of kiln space. Early registration 1s highly recommended for both these workshops, in order for us to confirm travel arrangements.@ Call 604.291.6864 for more information or to register for the following workshops: Robert Barron: Direct From Down Under Sa/Su, February 23/24, 10:00 a.m. — 4:00 p.m. $84.80 Barcode: 146897 Wood Firing With Robert Barron Th/F/Sa/W, March 6/7/8/12, times vary $318.00 Barcode: 146898 POTTERS GUILD «BRITISH U——E—E———— — EEE OO) Image 3, The Travellers Image 6, Reed Vessel Image 7, Mosaic y
