with Benita Chapdelaine Last year most of my friends moved away and this year I haven’t been able to get into a group. Everyone has their own -group of friends all set and I end up alone. I have some friends but no group that I belong to. I dress cool — I’m not real coal but I’m not a nerd either. Some kids make fun of me and I feel alone most of the time. How can I get kids to like me? Being out of a group of friends can be quite lonely and depressing and sometimes people go out of their way to get someone to like them. But don’t try to please others by dressing cool. Be yours- _ elf. If you feel comfortable in your runners and jeans or whatever, then wear them. You are who you are and they can take you or leave you as you are. People should like you for what you are and not how you dress. Everyone has something special about themselves and sometimes it takes a while to find the most comfortable group. Why don’t you get involved-in sports or some other activity? and sure. _ They say practice makes perfect. But is there really such a thing as perfect? Gaining self-confidence isn’t easy and it can take a long time. Most people, when they start a new job are scared. Why? Fear of not being able to do the job. Fear of screwing up. Fear of meeting new people. Then a few months down the road they are more comforiable and can go in ' and do their job... the fear slips How can a person get some self-confidence? Sometimes I feel like I’m just not "with it" but I see kids that just know how to act and I wonder how they can feel so cool away. Maybe those kids you’re talking about have just had a little more practice than you.
