THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM ITEM If - Continued The actual comparison costs are as follows: 1. The one-ton water van - actual fuel costs aro about $17.00 per month higher with propane than with gasolinc. If installation costs for the propane equipment are added on and averaged over a seven year life span, the average monthly cost for propane would be about $32.00 more than gasoline. 2. Dump truck - the actual monthly costs for pro- pane are about $49.00 more than for gasoline. If the install- ation cost is averaged over a seven year life span the monthly average cost for propane would be about $66.00 more than gasoline. The above figures assume that there would be no change in the ratio between the cost of gasoline and the cost of propane. This assumption, of course, may not be valid at all if gasoline inereases significantly in the future. Another factor which is not considered in the calculations is the reduction in wear of the engine and reduction in maintenance costs due to the cleaner burning fucl. These factors are difficult to estimate at this time and may not even be relevant if we assume that we will trade our vehicles after seven years whether or not the engine is worn out. If we were to decide not to keep the propane conver- sion, we would not pay any costs for tha materials and our only additional cost would be the cont of our labour and reconverting the two vehicles. If we decide to keep the installations, we would have to pay for the cost of the equipment which is presently inatalled in the vehicles and this would be about $800.00 per vehicle. The Committee recommends that we ratain the equipment on the vehicle so that we can dévelop leng-range experience on whether it is to eur advantage, but that we do not convert any other vehicles at this time. ITEM IIIT Re: Truck Route on the North Side Complaints have boen received from tha RCMP about the difficulties of enforcing our truck route regulations on the north side because we have no route designated as truck reutes., This in effect leaves the option of which street to use up to the driver, The logical roads to be used for truek routes would be Shaughnessy to Prairie and Prairie Avenue for those trucks coming from the west and Conaget Meridian Road for those trucks coming from the east, However, the Prairie Avenue reute runs past a school which may make this route unacceptable, It is [Buves
