Alderman Thompson then referred to Land Sales, and advised that the practice of replacing land used or sold is being continued. Alderman Thompson, in referring to his service on the Public Works Committee, stated he felt Alderman Mabbett to be the best Chairman that Committee has had. In conclusion, Alderman Thompson thanked everyone for the opportunity of serving over the next two years, which he stated would be a rather special time for him since it was to be his last term of office as an Alderman and that during that time he would serve the community to the best of his ability. ~ Alderman Alderman Traboulay addressed the meeting, and commented that the Traboulay power of municipal government as far as changing the lives of those in Port Coquitlam, is very limited, since policies of the senior governments and commerce shape almost every facet of the City's public affairs. Alderman Traboulay advised that most of the City's funds are now or will be committed, with very little being left that can be called "discretionary'; however, the Council is the best instrument available to keep in touch with some of the issues that affect the daily lives of the public and to make smali decisions that contribute to a better way of life. Alderman Traboulay pointed out that municipal governments are interested in the quality of life - better enforcement of by-laws, environmental protection, beautification of parks, improving roads and lanes, improving communications between residents and Council ~- small day-to-day things designed to make iife better. Alderman Traboulay stated he was pleased to have been elected again, as this provides him with an opportunity of making these small decisions so that Port Coquitlam will be a better place in which to live. Alderman Keryluk addressed the meeting, and reflected that the year ~ Alderman Keryluk 1976 was a very difficult one, not only in Port Coquitlam, but right across Canada - as people faced the reality of inflation - wich the City's reduced budget resulting in a lessening of services in many instances. Alderman Keryluk advised that he served as the 1976 Chairman of the Building & Protection Committee, Deputy Chairman of the Leisure Activities Committee, the City's Trustee on the Fraser Valley Regional Library Board, and chaired the Library Construction Committee appointed by Mayor Campbell. Alderman Keryluk then thanked Alderman Ranger for his service as Co-Chairman on the Building & Protection Committea; also, the Building Inspector, Mr. N.
