Whitman of Prince George weather office. ~The November highlight will be the total lunar eclipse on Sunday evening, Nov, 28, The eclipse will occur high in ‘the sky at a convenienl time and after the end of twilight, “It has been many years since -“'such'a favourable eclipse has oc- curred in western Canada. 'They’ve- always been a “strong supporter of patient care at ‘this hospital: especially for equip- - ment, ”’ said Joyce Krause direc- ~ tor of patient services. ‘The advanced technology and design of the stretcher provides improved comfort and safety for “fhe patient and a greater flexibility for the medical and * musing staff positioning and transporting patients. > *€ A wonderful part of this type ‘of equipment it is used every -day,”’ said Krause. Smoother glide hydraulic adjust- ‘ment and the adjustment range, is _ a big improvement over the older models, _ ©The efficient design of the stretcher was noticed immediate- ~ ly by recovery room nurse, Susan '- -Kaulbeck. : “ffs easier on us and the patients, this is fast and easy,” ‘said Kaulbeck. ; _ She explained that the operating room is accessibic with this. unit, ‘and that there is alot more storage space for equipment. In the older. -model stretchers the equipment — ‘some! times. had to be carried -adlong side or onboard with the patients, Kinsmen bingo chairman Jim MacKenzie was on hand when { the: procedural stretcher was pre- ‘sented to the hospital on behalf of «the Kinsmen, *.E-would like to thank all the ‘people: who participated in our monthly bingo,” said MacKen- gies -The Kinsmen previous donations made it possible to purchase a Telemetry Unit for cardiac _monitoring, an electronic bed for - the Palliative Care Unit, and other equipment. ; 28 tk kk ‘THE SKEENA VALLEY Car Club has purchased a $2,800 hydraulic ram for the Terrace Fire ‘Department. ' The device could be a life- saver. > ft?s an accessory for the Jaws of. "Life, used to extract victims from’ _ car wrecks. The ram extends out three feet, and can both pull and push, said Skeena Valley Car Club president Doug MacKay. The Skeena Valley Car Club is” -also donating $500 to the B.C. ‘Head Injuries Association for - repair of the Convincer. The crash ‘simulation machine ‘ helps demonstrate an accident at - various speeds — and what hap- _ pens to. victims who don't wear seat belts. The machine was damaged in . Saskatchewan and tlie association _ is. seeking $12,000 to help repair it. MacKay says the Terrace dona- ‘tion likely means the repaired — . machine will return here to help persuade drivers of the value of " wearing seat belts. ‘ ‘The Skeena Valley Car Club is , also turning over $500 to the " REM. Then the moon moves into the earth’s umbral shadow, which is much darker, but not black due to refraction of sunlight by the earth’s atmosphere, bending some sunlight into the shadow. THe earth’s umbral shadow is “Tange of colours. 10:50 p.m. -- Total eclipse _ Shadow. The moon will be between two large, bright open star clusters — the Hyades and the Pleiades — affording an excellent photo op- portunity. Your unaided eye will give you a fine view of the eclipse. Binoculars and other low-power telescopes will give the best view of the complex combinations of colour and shading in the shadow. If you use a larger telescope, use the lowest available power. In my experience, binoculars will give a much more esthetical- ly pleasing view of a lunar eclipse than a large instrument.
