L’Ecole Muheim a Smithers a accueilli le Carnaval en février ot les enfants jouaient dans la neige dehors, et la classe de M. Dufresne a créé des planches a neige pendant I’événement. Patrick Witwicki photos WINTERFEST (from page 6) But for 2015, after talking with the District of Kitimat, we decided to partner up with organizers of Rail Jam, and to combine the two events together. So that meant hosting our Winterfest in January. Small problem though: there was no snow! Not one centimetre! In Kitimat, of all things! Rail Jam, then, was can- celled, because there was no snow ANY WHERE in the northwest, never mind just Kitimat. All of the northwest from one end to the other was like Prince Rupert: rain, rain, rain. And no snow. That said, we held our festival without Rail Jam. The festival began with our Kick- off Social Thursday, Janu- ary 22 at Rosario’s, and Bill Vollrath provided the music. We had more than 50 people participate at the event. Meanwhile, our concert scheduled for Friday was definitely affected by the cancellation of Rail Jam. We had named our show “the Rail Jam After-party,” and we only had two weeks to re-brand the event: the Snow Hope Dance Party. But it was too late to recover, and only 30 people attended the concert. Still, Hazelton’s Axes of Ego per- formed live music at the event, which was held at the Kitimat Legion. On Saturday, we hosted our Festival Brunch at Riverlodge, and just like last year, between 60 to 70 people participated (attendees and volunteers). Maybe the heavy rain scared participants away, we have no idea. See ‘“‘No snow” on page 20.
