Maitland, City Treasurer - Deputy Administrator SUBSECT: Paying of Property Taxes at Banks F 1 G Committee Meeting - Decernber 22, 1992 RECOMMENDATION: That the City not permit banks to accept tax payments. BACKGROUND & COMMENTS: Some months ago, we received a request from Councilior Talbot that we investigate the possibility of allowing taxpayers to pay their taxes at banks. You may also have noticed that in our 1993 budget document I had outlined this as one of the goals of the Finance Department for 1993. We subsequently investigated how other municipalities handled payments (survey copy attached). The results of the survey showed the following: Municipalities which permit payment at financial institutions: Port Moody Mission Richmond Vancouver Surrey Nanaimo Coquitlam Langley City Langley Township Kelowna Municipalities which permit payment at some financial institutions: Maple Ridge Saanick Chilliwack White Rock Municipalities which do not permit payment at financial institutions: West Vancouver Prince Rupert Vernon North Van City North Van District Oak Bay Port Alberni Victoria Port Coquitlam Advantages to having banks accept payments: customer convenience [ire | PAGE 8 |24|
