THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM C 0 1 YG q JUN 13 jo77 June 10, 1977 MAYOR AND COUNCIL LEISURE ACTIVITIES COMMLTTEE FENCES AROUND RESIDENTIAL SWIMMING POOLS - Please see attached. A concern was expressed to the Committee by a citizen that the present four foot height requirement for a fence around a residential swimming pool was inadequate. ' The committee has discussed increasing the height in order to discourage neighboring children from climbing over the fence and preventing a possible hazard. . Our solicitor has been contacted to see if by increasing the height the City may be liable in any way and he indicated that there would be no problem in increasing the height. RECOMMENDATION That Building Bylaw 1298 be ammended for "fence heights" around residential swimming pools, and that the height be 5 feet or 6 feet (to be decided by council). Furthermore that the new requirements be for newly built fences only and that existing fences will not be affected by this change.
