JUN ~ 5 1972 Mayor & Council L.D. Pollock, City Administrator. June 1, 1972 Re: Minor Sports Subsidy In June of lost year the Council adopted a report from the Parks and Recreation Committee containing several recommendations pertaining to the organization then known as the Port Coquitlam Junior Athletic Association. A copy of the committee report is attached and the resolutions passed by Council at the regular meeting of June 7th, 1971 adopted Items (a) to (d), inclusive, and Items 1. to 6., inclusive in the report, item 1 -— in the recommendations authorizes that the Port Coquitlam Junior Athletic Association be the official representatives for the grant in aid for minor sports and that this grant be administered by them. ‘the Amateur Athletic Association has asked that consideration be given to the payment of the sum included in the 1972 Budget ($6 ,000.) and I would like a resolution from Council authorizing this sum to be paid. Ttem 2 = Cost Sharing - Mosquito Control Programme - the resolution passed by Council authorizing the ground control mosquito programme did not specifically deal with the exact nature of cost sharing arrangements between the City and the District. I assumed that as the budget was split £10,000, for the District and $5,000. for the City, that it would be agreeable to pro~ ceed on the basis of a one-third - two-third division. This will only be of concern if we spend less than the $15,000. budget. However, the District of Coquitlam have clarified they are passing a resolution that they share on the kasis of two-thirds of the cost for the District of Coquitlam up to a maximum of $10,000. and one-third for the City of Port Coquitlam up to a maximum of $5,000. I have agreed to have the City act as paymaster for this programme and have received agreement from the Union that the scheme can commence in accordance with the Opportunities for Youth scheme proposed by the SPEC organization. In order to clarify the matter I would appreciate a resolution of Council confirming the one-third - two-third split in cost up to a maxinum of $5,000. for the City of Port Coquitlam. Item 3 ~- Liaison between Parks Department and Engineering Department — 1 have attached a brief report on the matters requested by Alderman Thompson
