Skeena Angling Club puts team in Hawaiian bill fish tournament TERRACE — On August 1 the Skeena Angling Club will be sen- ding five of its members to Hawaii for a fishing tournament. by Philip Musselman _ Five members of the Skeena Anglers club will be going to Hawaii to en- joy the beautiful climate and feel the thrill of in-- ternational competition with about 70 teams from all over the world. The Hawaiian competi- tion is known as the Hawaiian International Bill Fish Tournament and is a five day, eight hours per day, fishing derby which involves fishing for marlin and other billed fish. The Terrace team will be the second individual Canadian team to ever participate in this annual event. The other Cana- dian team originates from Victoria and has been participating for about eight years. Up until now the Victoria team has been Canada’s only representative to compete. The Terrace team con- sists of five members; one from Fraser Lake (former Terrace resident), one from Fort Nelson (another former Terrace resident), and three from Terrace. Firewood When wood is burned in a stove or fireplace, heat is used to evap- orate water from the wood before heat is given off, That is why dry wood produces more usable heat than the same amount of wet wood, These members will be up against teams from the United States, Japan, Australia, Guam, Brazil, Hong Kong, Tahiti, the Philippines, Thailand, and the Bahamas. ’ Skeena Journal will be accompanying the group and coverage on the trip will be telecast during the third and fourth weeks of September. According to Stan Kerr, Skeena Anglers representative, the team had been trying to get an invitation for “several months and had finally received it about two months ago. The Anglers hope to attend the event annually. This year the team will be trying to ar- range a display booth along with Tahiti, Fiji and New Zealand, in order to promote tourism in our area by getting people ac- quainted with the North- west. At the booth there . will,.be- videos, smoked salmon, brochures, pins; etc., that will be donated by local merchants. The Anglers Club even wrote to the City of Terrace asking for a donation of a framed picture of a Kermodei bear.
