; The ultimate cover up... CIA report to be ‘censored’ by Ford After months of testimony on the activities of the Central In- telligence Agency, the whole Story may be killed. The moun- tain may have labored only to produce a mouse. The House of Representatives Jan. 30 voted to withhold the final report of its Select Commit- tee until it has been censored by President Ford. This, as everyone knows from Nixon’s “editing” of the Watergate tapes, should fin- ally produce a document that will read like a seed catalogue. So.disgusted was the chairman of the committee that he describ- ed the year’s work as “an exer- -Cise in futility”. Futile is wasn’t — although the efforts to bring out the CIA’s werld-wide operations and be- 8in to put the agency under con- trol are seriously hampered. Enough facts seeped out to fill in a sordid picture of a multi- billion dollar spy network that surprised even its supporters. The method of operations by the CIA at home and collusion , with elected officials to cover up its dealings also came in for scrutiny during the hearings. In the last days, charges that Sena- tor Jackson: advised the CIA on ways to avoid probing questions were .heard. Jackson, it was claimed, advised the agency on ways to cut back on the author- ity of Church’s Senate Foreign Relations Committee which was digging into CIA involvement in the USA’s international policies. Jackson is a candidate for the presidency in 1976. Details of CIA goings on abroad were released daily and included ‘‘destabilizing’’ the Al- ‘lende government in Chile, cash and other favors to right-wing parties and individuals in Italy, Iraq, Indonesia, the Middle East and its Angola operations. The matter of ClIA-corporation con- nections also sufaced exposing the use of the agency’s $10-bil- lion a year budget in awarding contacts without bids. : The totality of the CIA’s cor- ruption and its numerous con- nections into the political and business circles of the United States was begining to show. Many people, it can be safely as- sumed, were getting worried. The latest move to block the publication of the Select Com- mittee’s findings under the guise of “protecting state security” will fool no one. Gerald Ford has no intention of allowing his friends and cronies to be ex- posed, nor will weaken a world- wide agency that has been very useful to U.S. aims abroad. ete KSPR! Peking is partner Ships are cruising to and fro these days between the Chinese and Chilean coasts carrying Cargos of rice purchased by the Chilean regime from its trade Partners in China and of Chilean Copper bought by Peking. The ‘ties between the Maoists and the Pinochet junta keep frowing. Immediately after the fascist coup in Chile, Peking - °Penly displayed its support for the anti-popular regime and €stablished “friendly relations” with it. In line with their active Policy of promoting broad trade and economic contacts with the Junta, tHe Maoists have granted the latter a loan of $58-million. In 1974 China imported from ile more than $117-million Worth of goods, compared with & mere $500,000 worth in 1973 when the Popular Unity Govern- Ment was in power. In other Words, there has been developing 4 mutual understanding between hina and Chile. One can discern quite a defi- Nite logic in the Peking leaders’ ver more “sincere friendship” With the junta. Declaring that © Soviet Union and the other SOcialist countries are. Enemy Umber One, and regarding the 'Mperialist forces and reaction- ary regimes as their allies, the a0ists have found in the Chi- “an generals good allies for amning anti-communist, anti- Oviet hysteria. No wonder, therefere, that the junta’s fore- ign minister, Patricio Carcajal, the former Chief of Staff of the armed forces, who was one of the organizers of the attack on the presidential palace and of the murder of Salvador Allende, readily cites anti-Soviet speeches coming in from Peking. To the delight of the Peking leaders, the Chilean press has been making extensive use of a dirty set of arguments invented by Maoist propaganda to attack the Soviet Union. It is indicative, of Pinochet regime that the Chilean journal Mer- curio has supplemented its at- tack on detente in international relations being allegedly’ in the interests of the Soviet Union along with similar statements by China’s Foreign Minister, Chiao Kouan-Hua. Each new step taken by the Maoists exposes their complete lack of principles to the public as accomplices of Pinochet’s fascist regime. —APN PINOCHET RESIGNATION RUMOR IN CHILE LONDON — Infor Augusto Pinochet, hea be forced to resign in the coming in Santiago de Chile, the air is chet’s resignation and The past few weeks diplomatic circles hav generals led by Pinochet an ultimatum the end of Dec the North” and top junta fig Chilean general staff by Pinoc in a conspirary against him. In order to survive, the appeal says, the military-fascist govern- ment of General Geisel intensi- fies its repression, imprisonment and kidnapping daily. Each day young, anti-fascist fighters are murdered by the regime. The appeal continues: “The dictatorship’s political and military machine has com- mitted a new crime: kidnapping two young communists, Jose Montenegro de Lima and Jayme Rodrigues Estrella Jr., leaders of the Brazilian Young Commun- ists, whose whereabouts are still unknown.” “José Montenegro de Lima began his revolutionary path when he was very young, in the end of the fifties, joining the Communist Party, reaching the front ranks of the champions of the emancipation of the Brazilian people. : “After the reactionary coup d’- etat in 1964 he assumed without any hesitation his place in the struggle and showed himself as a daring combatant against the dictatorship and a leader highly respected and admired by his comrades. Later he assumed the task to reorganize the Brazilian Communist Youth, becoming its acknowledged leader. “After several years of search- ing the fascist “gorillas” have succeeded in kidnapping José Montenegro de Lima and his life is in danger. “Jayme Rodrigues Estrella Jr. began his political activity as a ‘student in the beginning of the *sixties. While very young he de- vcted himself to the Communist Party and struggle. Later he also enthusiastically took part in the reorganization of the Brazilian Communist Youth, having be- come an outstanding leader. He was known among his comrades for his courage and devotion. He was kidnapped together with Jcsé Montenegro de Lima and his whereabouts are also uh- known; his life is in danger. “The Brazilian Communist Party, tireless and unswerving champion of the struggle for the emancipation of our people and our youth, denounces before the world the kidnapping of these two young fighters. “We appeal to all political forces and democrats all over the world and particularly to the youth organizations to voice their protest against this further act of violence of the Geisel ad- ministration. “International solidarity, which has already been able to liberate and save the lives of a number of young Chilean _anti- fascists, will also be able to save the lives of José Montenegro de Lima and Jayme Rodrigues Est- rella Jr.” - High-rise urban slums in Brazil cover massive areas. The military- fascist regime increases repression to keep the Brazilian people from overthrowing their oppressors. International solidarity will help the people rid their country of fascism.
