COUNCI NOV 26 1990 THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM REPORT TO COUNCIL November 20, 1990 TO: B.R. Kirk, City Administrator FROM: K. Janna Taylor, Parks & Recreation Director SUBJECT: New Arena - Tempered Glass Recommendations : 1. That tempered glass shields be erected around the playing area of the new arena at a cost estimated at $36,000. That the money for this project be taken from the foilowing areas: Minor Hockey $19,000 Parks & Recreation Capital Budget $17,000 3. That a letter of thanks be sent to Port Coquitlam Minor Hockey for their contribution of $19,000.00. Background of Proposed Project: Presently the new arena playing area has wire mesh around the boards. The wire mesh is now fifteen years old and needs to be replaced. Rather than replacing it with wire mesh, it is being recommended that tempered glass be used. Tempered glass is a product that is now installed in the majority of arenas. This glass allows spectators to view various sports better. It also provides a safer surface for hockey and ringette players who might, on occasion, hit the side boards.
