In particular: (a) One company in Vancouver operates vehicles designed . to accommodate handicapped persons, but such vehicles are not allowed to pick up fares in Port Coquitlam. Some taxi companies are utilizing "luxury cabs," but, again, they are not availeble outside of their designated areas, and, in particular, not in Port Coquitlam. With B.C. Place and other facilities for public events being situated primarily in the City of Vancouver, residents of suburban areas must use Vancouver based taxis, and take whatever service is available at times of high demand, rather than using taxie from their own municipality. As a taxi company operating in Port Coquitlam we support regional licensing, because we believe it will benefit the taxi industry as a whole and result in better service for users of taxis - particularly in the suburban areas. We request that you give this question your consideration and- send a letter to the Motor Carrier Commission before May 14th, 1884, supporting regional licensing.
