after meetings between members of the Council or Staff and representatives
of the Provincial Government. Alderman Ranger cited specifically the
several meetings involving Mayor Campbel1, the City Engineer and Highways
Department officials.

From the Finance Committee, June llth, 1976 with respect to funds
fo cover an anticipated overrun in welfare costs and the hiring of an
additional Police Constable and recommending that Secondary Highway
Maintenance be discontinued for the remainder of the year; that there
be a delay in the hiring of the eight additional firemen until October
ist, 1976; and that no additional men be hired for the R.C.M.P. at this
time.

Moved by Alderman Ranger:

Seconded by Alderman Thompson:

That as recommended by the Finance Committee in its report of June llth,
1976:

1. That Secondary Highway Maintenance be discontinued for the
remainder of the year

2. That the hiring of eight additional firemen be delayed until
October Ist, 1976

3. That no additional men be hired for the R.C.M.P. at this time;

AND THAT the funds be reallocated to cover the extra welfare costs.

That subject to the proviso that no additional men be hired for the
R.C.M.P. at this time the foregoing resolution be tabled and the other
two recommendations ‘be referred to Council as a Whole as Finance Conmittee

for further consideration.

Carried.
Alderman Mabbett voted against the resolution.
During discussion of the foregoing resolutions, Alderman Mabbett

expressed concern that the Committee had been so specific respecting funds

being taking from Secondary Highway Maintenance and suggested that it

could have been stated that funds were to come from the Public Works

Budget generally.

From the Finance Committee, July 10th, 1976 recommending payment of

Accounts totalling $1,551,628.92.
