A6 - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, June 18, 2003 Dear Dan: entitlement works both ways in the northwest An open letter to: Dan Veniez. CORRESPONDENCE FOR THE TERRACE STANDARD Dear Sir: I’ve read your recent comments and I can’t be- lieve your attitude toward the northwest. While I do agree with you about the Eurocan pulpworkers’ strike in Kitimat, your comment, “I'm disgusted with the northwest. And you can print that!” is pinheaded to say the least. You are painting everyone with the same brush. If | was on the Prince Rupert city council, after an ar- ticle like that, 1 wouldn’t lend you my shovel, let alone $20 million. What are you thinking? You say we have a “culture of entitlement.” You wer- en’t specific except to say the northwest so ['m assum- ing that includes all of us. It must include you too, Dan- ny boy, as you haven’t paid your taxes in Terrace. Our city council is suffering bigtime because of your “entitlement: culture.” I paid my taxes, even after being screwed out of near- ly $20,000 when your business partner, George Petty, and Repap went under in 1997, Even then I paid all my bills, every freaking one of them, Dan. But you and cou- sin George did not. Who is entitled here, Dan. I’m con- fused. You have gotten your entitlement agreements with the Prince Rupert pulp mill and the Terrace sawmill and they are still not running. Can’t raise the coin? It’s no The Mail Bag wonder. You keep shooting your mouth off. Bankers can read, Dan. In one article you say West Fraser is a well run company and a good corporate citizen. I can’t argue that. In another article you call them silly for their coun- ter offer to the Kitimat pulpworkers. Where does your actual opinion of them rest? Maybe hit them up for a loan. I don’t doubt you have worked hard trying to get this thing up and running, and, if you ever do, it will help the northwest economy immensely. But the underlying theme here is to make you rich and with your history (Repap), no one trusts you. | really do hope you get things going, Dan, as it will benefit me, even though 1 just sold my log truck. But take some advice from a guy who is a tad pissed ¢ff al you right now. Put brain in gear before letting clutch out on mouth. For your information, I am not affiliated with any union or political party. I have been a self-employed log trucker since 1985, working mostly for §.C.1./Repap/whatever. I just sold the truck because the bills need tending. Somehow, I don’t feel entitled. Percy Gavronsky, Terrace, B.C. Sewer project needs attention An open letter to: suppose ours is for? Bus fee attacked Dear Sir: Re: “Private schools hit with bus fees,” The Terrace Standard, May 21. That smiling face of school trustee Hal Sted- ham is all I need to make my blood boil. Iam a grandpa who sends his three grandchildren to the Centennial Christian School, I am called a free loader because the kids ‘take “a bus” to school and because they live miles away from school. | I pay my taxes for Mr. Stedham’s schools like anybody else and on top of that, I relieve the burden on the public by paying $410 a month for Christian education. I don’t want my grandchildren te grow up as pagans or Mus- lims or anything else. Forcing me to pay another $1,500 per year for bus fare for my three prandchifdren is, in my opinion, just another at- tack on our freedoms and Christianity. They want to mould us into the harness of so-called public educa- tion and to accept the brainwashing of the left and its immoral sexual propaganda. Bill Homburg, Terrace, B.C.
