With 52 teams and nearly 800 young people playing, youth soccer is the biggest! sport in Terrace. And cocr- dinator Bob Petras thinks it will get bigger still. “We expect to have over 1000 players by the year 2000,”’ says Petras. ‘That ts absolulely remarkable for a community of this size.”’ Not everyone is happy with the situation though. Between 90 and 100 players are still trying to get into the program. “The problem is that there simply aren’t enough fields to accommodate more teams,”’ says Petras. ‘‘But we're juggling things to get as many people in as pos- sible. We've even gone from having 12 to 16 players per team.” Petras also expects the long-awailed soccer pavil- lion to be opened by June 1S. An opening ceremony will be held shortly there- after.
