Out & About Flame changes SOME of the city's top restaurant talent are joining forces to transform the Golden Flame into a new Testaurant called Dante’s, The three partners who have pur- chased the Golden Flame business from longtime Jocal restaurateur George Darvoudis are: Dietmar Hahne, head chef of the Bavarian Inn for six years; Dale De Caire, the Bavarian Inn-trained head chef of Mt, Layton Hotsprings’ dining room; and financial backer Kevin Peterson. The name change, re-design, and menu change is scheduled for early April, said Hahne. Dante’s food will be “‘Mediterranean” — which Hahne says gives them the scope to go from Morrocan io Lebanese, Greek, Italian, Spanish and even Portugese, ‘We want to be creative,’’ Hahne said. ‘“We want to be creating new flavours and trying new things out. And we think people will trust us to do that,’* That will mean a smaller regular menu and a lot more specials, with emphasis on new aad different dis- hes on the menu every day, he said. He said other staff will include head waiter Mark Page, formerly head waiter at the Bavarian, and hosiess/staff manager Connie Sil- veira, formerly restaurant manager at the hot springs. Darvoudis continues to own the land and building, which he is Jeas- ing to the trio. Boom talk CALLS FROM potential devel- opers have the phones ringing off the hook down at the city’s public works building, “f can’t believe the number of calls we're getting,”’ senior building inspector Paul Gipps said, noting the pace is so far faster than the record growth of 1995. He said there’s lots of multi- family developments, especially duplexes and four-plexes being pro- posed, plus inquiries of interest from major commercial developers, “It’s impressive,”’ he said. “If we get half of what people are calling us about and telling us they’re going to do, we're going to have a very, very good year.”’ EREERE Christmas Craft Fair Show off your creative talent and earn some extra Christmas Cash! Mike Moore {above} displays some of the plates that will bear the native de- signs of Tsimshian artists Wayne Robinson and Alexander Clifton Ridley, and Haida artist Kevin Neal Ryland. The items will alse feature the crest of the ship — the HMCS Protecteur, HMCS Calgary, HMCS Regina, or HMCS Winnipeg. The 15,000 pins will be given to sailors as trade items, while the 600 plates and about 100 mugs will be sold to sailors from the ships’ canteens. Moore said Blue Ridge’s new man- ager Bill Taylor — who landed the navy contract — is now finalizing a deal to market the northwest native-designed souvenir items to Holiand-America Cruise Lines.
