Living Two-year old Jade was born with machial plexis i inj ury (nerve damage in her left arm), which, has resulted in partial paralysis. At birth, her left arm was totally limp and useless. Jade’s mother Caroline says, "It’s been pretty “scary, but she’s doing so well,” When Jade was born, her father Jerry was driving on-call fora local Jogging company. With referrals from friends and after much searching, Jade’s | family finally connected with Rob Finlayson, chairman of the Kinsmen’s Mothers’ March in Terrace. The Kinsmen arranged for Jade and her parents to be flown twice to Children’s Hospital in ‘Vancouver to see neurosurgeons ‘and to have an EMG done. "They’re so quick to help," says Jade’s mother gratefully. While in Vancouver for treatment and examinations, the Kinsmen made arrangements for them to stay at Easter Seal House. At one point, the family considered moving to Vancouver if extensive treatment was required, — Surgery was finally ruled out, at least temporarily. The family has been able to get themselves _ Centre and constantly do activ- ities at home that stretch and strengthen Jade’s damaged arm. The future for the development of Jade’s arm is unknown, but her mother is optimistic. She says she used to worry about her daughter going to school and not being able to do all the things the rest of the kids could do. But she’s seen such progress and such determination in her daugh- ter that she feels certain Jade will manage. Mothers’ March chairman Rob Finlayson says that last year the drive raised over $14,000. About 150 volunteer canvassers are expected to take part in it.
