It was a 12-team series with divisions of three teams each for round-robin action to start. -Teams then split into cross-over semi-finals and set up in three groups —- ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘Cc’. This put semi-final winners as finalists with a chance at some trophies. The youngsters played 21 games overall (scores of all games in this week’s scoreboard). Players, coaches, and visiting parents also enjoyed a banquet on the Saturday night. Young keglers get ready to roll off Six pre-teen youngsters from Terrace, plus five from Prince Rupert and, one from Smithers head out to Kamloops next week where they'll compete in youth bowling council’s ‘“*four-step-to- stardom”’ -five-pin provincial finals. All 12 recently won five-game rolloffs at Kitimat, and compete under the bantam age category. They’re all 11 years or younger. The singles’ girl rep is from Smithers, while the girls’ team comes from Prince Rupert. Terrace is supplying all the boys, including 11-year-old Ryan Franzen in singles. He ran up an 1102 for his five-game zone final, 290 pins ahead of his closest competitor. This worked out to a 220 average. The Terrace boys’ team ran up an even more impressive score. Their 2297 effort topped the runnersup by 331 pins. The boys and their ages are David Alway (9), Roy Hernes (10), Richard Wiebe (8), Everett Dupas (10), and Cory Trogi (11). All winners at Kamloops ad- vance to national finals in the Fraser Valley starting May 4. Terrace bowlers eliminated at provincial level Northwest B.C. had two bowlers place in the top 15 out of 84 provincial competitors at the Labatt’s Lite five-pin cham- pionship rolloff Saturday at Sur- rey, but it wasn’t good enough to earn them a place in the up- coming CBC sports weekend TV series. The top two keglers — Wayne Davies to represent our province in playoffs for $43,000 in prizes. Davies had a 15-game total of 4127 while Traynor chipped in with a 3974. Our best bowler was Terrace’s Larry Lopushinky, who recently came up with a perfect 450 game at the local lanes. He scored 3685 for 14th place, Right be- hind him in 15th was Rob Roll- ins of Kitimat with 3682. Other Northwest bowlers. competing and their 10-game scores were Prince Rupert's Harry Fairbrother (2471 for 26th spot); John Rasmussen of Terrace (2431 for 32nd spot); Roger Alves of Kitimat (2392 for 45th place); and Teru Yamacto of Prince Rupert (2334 for 53rd place).
