| 8 Terrace Review — Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1986 Shannon Construction Bucks Kermodes find zone tough Do you want some ex- cuses for the Caledonia Kermodes losing both their games at their An- nual Mini-Zone High School Basketball Tour- nament just before Christmas? Unless you count the fact that lanky center Chris McDonald missed out on all the action due to an injured ankle, and that another regular in Pat McPhee played only half a game before being hurt, there are no ex- cuses. We must admit that the Kermodes were not trounced by any means, but have a lot to learn if they hope to be top con- tenders for the zone title in March. The major flaw in their game seems to be picking off rebounds. Perhaps they'll find a cure by March 28 when they play off for a trip to the B.C, finals. In the opening game, the Rainmakers came up with an 88-76 win over the Kermodes. The Prince Rupert boys held a 20-16 lead at the quarter, 44-37 at the half, and 68-57 going in- to the final 10-minute period. The Rainmakers got 24 points from Corey Martens, 2] from Tim Robinson and 20 from George Mason, Dave Kirkaldy paced Kermodes with a 2l-point effort. Kevin ‘Maki chipped in with 18 and Harry Dahmi had 13. Kermodes were called for 31 of the game’s 58 fouls, Game two saw the Rainmakers clinch the tournament with a 74-57 win over Kitimat’s Rebels. . Rainmakers held a 29-20 lead at halftime. Robinson paced them with 22 points. Greg Engen had 14 for the Rebels. The Kermodes could have salvaged some pride with a victory in their final game against the Rebels, but a fourth- quarter surge by Kitimat gave them a 80-73 vic- tory. Kitimat took a 21-20 lead in the first quarter and were ahead 39-38 at the half. By the three- quarter mark it was Rebels 61 and Kermodes 58. Fouls were the undo- ing of the Kermodes. They were fingered for 24 miscues while their opponents were only caught eight times. Scoring in double figures were Kent Aird with 16, Kevin Molden- hauer 14, Harry Dahmi 12 and Dave Kirkaldy 10. Greg Engen had 20 points to lead Kitimat. On Christmas Day, the Kermodes left for Raymond, Alberta, to tournament. Results of compete in a special in- vitational eight-team that series can be found elsewhere in this edition. These youngsters are the Bucks In the new Terrace Minor Basketball League. With co-coaches Harry Dhami and Trevor Shannon, the team players are Rodney Gibbs, Dale Hanson, Dean Pasowlsty, Norman Halvor- son, Brad Hanson, Todd Ducharme and Shawn Ducharme. (CloseUp!
