City Engineer PLANNING AND CONSTRUCTION Of HIGH VOLTAGE TRANSMISSION (Public Works Committee Meeting, November 20, 1990) Recoumendations : de. _ That Council. adopt a resolution encouraging all future B.C. Hydro : High Voltage Transmission Lines to be underground rather than above ground; and . - oe . That the Council for the City of Port Coquitlam. request that the Greater Vancouver Regional District and the Technical Advisory Committee take a lead role in’ coordinating the utility plans for new utilities and infrastructure throughout the lower mainland. Background & Discussion: The Committee considered the attached memorandum from the Deputy Engineer regarding a meeting held November 14, 1990 with representatives from B.C. Hydro and other Lower Mainland Municipalities. The Public Works Committee was concerned about negative effects from electro-magnetic fields from overhead hydro installations, that overhead powerlines through urban areas are not suitably landscaped and that the placing of hydro lines underground is not a high priority issue with B.C. Hydro. The Committee feit that the utility plans for new utilities and infrastructure for utility companies iike B.C, Hydro should be coordinated on a regional basis. A Fidler, ke I.R,Zahynaczy P.
