TO: Members of Council March 3rd, 1976 HAR 8 1876 FROM: Mayor J.M. Campbell I have been appointed to the new G.V.R.D. Hospital Committee chaired by Mayor Art Phillips. We had our first meeting today. The Committee is composed of Mayor T. Goode, Mayor T. Reid, Alderman A. Emmott, myself and, of course, the Chairman, Mayor Art Phillips. Our job will be to recommend priorities to the Regional Board working in co-operation with the Advisory Committee. The announcement made today by the Minister, the Honourable Bob McClelland, that the B.C. Medical Committee has been dissolved and this will make the Regional District the sole Hospital participant in the Lower Mainland. In the afternoon I attended a Regional Planning Budget Committee Meeting. Last year the Planning Budget was $934,000. This year, if pissed, it is $1,170,000. The planned programmes come to $988,000. and Mayor Tonn and I made a motion to have unallocated funds totalling $100,000. which would have made the budget $998,000. - very little over the year before. This was defeated and the figure of $272,000. unallocated has been recommended. There was much discussion over the use of $181,000. for a compact housing study and $165,000. ° on a transit study. Frem what I have learned, the Government has made no promise of aid in rapid transit and I believe that these monies should net be used this year.
