Hundreds of people turn to the food bank cach month, The food bank typically operates over the winter months through to March. Dona- tions determine whether or not the food bank will be able to open its doors in April as well. Cash is always welcome because food bank officials buy some items, too. People wishing to donate money or non-perish- able food items are urged to drop by Telemedia (West) Radio’s downtown office, where between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., volunteers will be serving up hot-dogs, hamburgers and other refreshments — all for the price of a donation to the food bank. There will also be activities for the kids, includ- ing face painting and a fish pond. \On the same day, local Guides and Scouts are holding their own annual drive in support of the food bank. Called the Hike for Hunger, participants will hike from city hall to the Food for Friends lo- cation to drop off their own donations of non-per- ishable food items.
