B16 Terrace Review — Wednesday, August 22, 1990 The 25th anniversary reunion of the Class of 65 was held in Terrace on Aug. 3 to 5. The days have gone by, but the memories of this very special reunion will be with most of the classmates forever. This was the very first reunion of the Class of 65, and it was a very emotional weekend for many who had not returned to Terrace in 25 or more years. On Friday afternoon the welcoming committee greeted out-of-town guests arriving at the airport with "welcome home" banners. All classmates were invited to help decorate the banquet rooms at the Inn of the West. This also served as an excellent opportunity to begin renewing old friendships. The first event on Friday was a "welcome home" wine and cheese party, which was well attended amidst a vast collection of memo- tabilia and other high school. treasures from the '60’s. The next day, two vintage cars, bearing Class of ’65 Reunion banners, entered the Riverboat Days’ parade. About 45 classmates donned their souvenir reunion T- shirts and accompanied the cars along the parade route. Several classmates, viewing from the sidelines, joined in the parade, as it proceeded through town. The Inn of the West was the venue for the banquet and dance on Saturday evening. Balloons and streamers in the traditional Skeena high colours of purple and gold were in abundance. Emcee Jim Stainton welcomed all Classmates, grads and teachers. Special recognition went to Nico Seinen, who travelled to Terrace all the way from Kalamazoo, Michigan. Erie Wade’s Disco provided all the favourite tunes of the ’60’s for dancing. Anne Anson’s lakeside home provided the perfect setting for the family picnic on Sunday afternoon. It was a warm and sunny day, and several competent chefs from the class prepared motorized raft and several canoes were available for “off shore" entertainment during the after- noon. All in all, the weekend proved to be a great success. Organizers were happy that they were able to create this successful home- coming for all their friends and teachers. Teachers attending were Elvira Bryant, Aileen Frank, Vera Frank, Mary Little, Hugh Power, Olga Power and Rose: Sharples. To find old classmates fora — reunion is no small feat in some cases. After months of searching there were still many people on the "lost" list. One of them was Linda Evans. . She was one of those, persons barbecued burgers and hotdogs. A Bits’n’Pieces People and everyday events in the Northwest by Alie Toop who just seemed to have van- ished. Through several different contacts, finally a Linda Evans was located in Vancouver. An invitation and a letter were sent, only to be returned to sender as she was not the Linda Evans they were looking for. Back to square one. They then heard that Linda had lived in the Vernon area and the she might have become a nurse. A letter was sent to the personnel director of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital, describing Linda Evans to see if anyone there remembered her. The personnel director in turn gave the letter to a person who had worked at the Vernon Jubilee for many years, and, binge, she remembered Linda, except that she had not worked there for some time, and Linda also had remarried. Some | old files were dug up, and there it was: Linda had moved to Kam- loops. When the grad committee in Terrace received all this good information, they had no trouble locating Linda Evans in Kam- loops. The neat part is that Linda lives on Skeena Street in Kam- loops. When Linda’s colleagues heard about the reunion they were more than happy to work her shifts so she could attend. If you think that this is the end of the story, not so. While the classmates were getting reacquainted during the reunion, a fellow visiting Terrace from Yellowknife was in Hanky’s. When he saw the ’65 reunion signs, he was curious to see who all were there. He also had gone to school here in Terrace during the 60’s. Although he was a couple of years younger than these people he would probably know some of them... and guess what? Walking around the room he runs into his sister, whom he had not seen for a long time. Neither knew that the other was going to be here, His sister was Linda Evans. This was a very happy reunion in more than one way for Linda Evans. Her brother is Jim Evans, who teaches school in Yellowknife. Souvenir T-shirts with a specially designed logo could be seen all over Terrace during the reunion weekend. Karen Keeler from Manning, Alberta really got into the act. She arrived wearing her T-shirt, a yellow poodle skirt, white saddle shoes and bobby © socks, ready to go to the sock hop. - Arie De Lange, now living in Vancouver and owning his own graphic design studio, designed the logo for the T-shirts. He is also a classmate from that time. There is still time to send me ~ your favourite zucchini recipes. Bill Van Westen, the man behind the shades, visited his old home town of Terrace during Riverboat Days, joining friend Don Coburn and the Coburn twins, Aaron and Luke.
