._8 Terrace Review — Wednesday ' September 14, 1988 | B,C. horseshoe championship tou rnament - marked by good orga Several months of hard work paid off for the Ter- race Horseshoe Club. as they hosted 78 players for the 1988 B.C. champion- ships on Labour Day week- end. pe B.C. president Horst Hesse told the Terrace club they did a great organizational job for their first-ever effort. He said serious and favorable considera- tion would be given if Terrace ever bid for the event in future years. A total of 18 events were held over the three-day weekend — 13 singles and five doubles. The major winner overall was Gerri Bigham of Langley. She won her seventh ladies ‘A’ championship, and set another _ record while doing it. In one of her matches on the way to the ti- tle, Bigham‘tossed 27 ringers out of 30 shots for a 90 percent average ~- the best ever by any B.C. player, male or female. Bigham also teamed with Doreen Hesse of Salmon Arm to with the ladies’ doubles event over Joan Ziraldo of Terrace and Dorothy Butz of Victoria. Best among the men was Tal Severson: of Summerland, win- ner of the men’s side for-several years, He won men’s ‘A’ and teamed with Alana Johnson of "Quesnel to place second in mix- ‘event, ‘D’ event went to Laverne ed ‘A’, Several Terrace players won trophies and prize money. Local organizer Joe Wideman teamed with Aurel.Lalonde of. nization, competition Burnaby to win the men’s doubles over Dennis Muslin of -[ Cloverdale-and Jolin Desjardins of Terrace. . os Henry Archibald came through to win the men’s ‘E’ Angelski of Terrace. . In the men’s ‘A’ event, Del Bjornson came in with a fourth- place finish. It was an all-Terrace finish for the top three in ladies’ ‘D’ event. Jean Smith was first, Ida Des- jardins second, and Marg Brink third, Patty Anderson came up with third place for ladies’ ‘C’, and ‘Tammy Brink won second in junior girls. Joan Ziraldo and Del Bjorn- son paired up to win the mixed . ‘B’ title. Minor Hockey registration Minor Hockey registration for the upcoming season in Terrace takes place Friday, Sept. 16 (5 to 9 p.m.) and Saturday the 17th (10 am, to 5 p.m.), al the Skeena Mall. ‘Fees will be the same as last year — $95 for pre-novice and $105 for novice and older. Plans call for an equipment swap on the 17th during registra- tion.
