June 14th, 1976 Budget, the Provincial Government should be asked to provide a minimum shuttle service (from Aggie Park to Metro Motors) during the Highway reconstruction period. Alderman Laking noted that the possibility of a foot bridge across the Coquitlam River at Patricia Avenue had been reviewed and the City Engineer had advised that the cost of such an installation would be at least $100,000.00. Alderman Laking further noted that the Council had,at a previous meeting, passed a motion and wrote to the School Board on the question of bussing students and the request had been denied, additionally, the Board had been approached regarding the possibility of making a joint presentation with the City to B.C.Hydro regarding the provision of service to the school twice a day but to date no official reply has been forthcoming. Alderman Laking suggested another alternative would be to clear a trail from the end of Manning through to the existing bridge walkway then along the dyke to the school, thus keeping the students away from the main construction area. Alderman Mabbett suggested that the matter had been discussed at some length at the last Council meeting and requested that the City Clerk read the Minutes of the June 7th, 1976 Council meeting in order that those present be aware of the actions of Council to date in this regard. Alderman Thompson suggested that although all those present were aware of and recognized the problems involved, it would appear that the solution lies with the School Board and/or the Provincial Government and there is some indication that the School Board has not recognized the problem. He felt that the Provincial Government had recognized that there is a problem and have advised that Mr. George Kerster, M.L.A. and the Hon. Alex Fraser, Minister of Highways will. be visiting the area to obtain first hand information of the conditions. In this regard, Alderman | Ald. Thompson Thompson requested that his Memorandum of June lOth, 1976 addressed to re conversation | with G.Kerster the Mayor and Council and noted as Agenda Item No. 6 be brought forward ; June 10/76 and considered at this time as it contained information respecting a telephone conversation between Alderman Thompson and Mr. Kerster during which Mr. Kerster asked for the co-operation of Council in allowing him time to fully investigate and negotiate the problems of the Lougheed Highway reconstruction delays and the more recent concerns regards the movement of school children in and through this area. Alderman Thompson noted that the proposed meeting involving Messrs. Kerster and Fraser was to be a joint meeting of the Mayors of the communities involved and
