Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, Alderman Mabbett suggested that in order to get a broader look at the situation, the Building Inspector ascertain from such municipalities as Surrey and Burnaby as to why they are not interested in having this Canadian Code for Farm Buildings. NEW BUSINESS: {Mayor Campbell re From Mayor J.M. Campbell, October 6th, 1975, advising of his attendance ymeeting on gun law at a meeting hosted by Maggie Burtinshaw on Saturday in Vancouver with representation from the three levels of Government, people from Wildlife and Mayor Phillips, and that at that time the following recommendations were accepted: 1. All guns must be kept in a secure place. 2. Licensing of both the hunter and the seller of guns. In order to get a licence they must have proof of training in a recognized proficiency programme on the handling of guns; also, there would be a 48-hour wait before the weapon could be picked up. 3. There is a demand for greater law enforcement on the use of guns, such as mandatory sentences if used by the criminal element; for example, there is a strong leaning towards a 5-year no parole sentence to anyone who uses a gun during a crime. Mayor Campbell, in his report, further advised that it is expected that there will be a gun law brought up this Fall and it is hoped that these recommendations will be given thought. In his report, Mayor Campbell also mentioned that those at the meeting did not go for gun registration at this time because of the very hard line against it by the Wildlife people.
