CORPORATION OF THE CITf OF PORT COQUITIAN PARKS 6 RFZREATION COMMITTEE A 6 meeting of the Parks & Recreation Cossnittee was held in the Parks Recreation Office on Augus 20, 1991 at 8:15 a.m. In attendance were Alderman Mike Thompson and Alderman Marg Gordon. Also in attendance was K. Janna Taylor, Parks & Recreation Director and Carlos Felip for Item 87 only. Item No. 1 Tractor/Loader The summary from Joe Huber, was reviewed by the Committee. The machine from Rollins meets spec'fications. all the R ttc~mm~na takin That we purchase the tractor/loader from Rollins at a cost of 429,882.85. 2. That the money to purchase the equipment be taken from the Parks & Recreation Department equipment reserve fund. ~Car Item No. 2 Reeve Street Park Conceptual Plan The Committee discussed the actached report from Judith Reeve Consultant. Recommendationg: 1. 2. That a report be taken to Council for approval of 411,500 to pay for additional work done on project. That a report be taken to Council for approval of 415,000 to do a conceptual plan for the remaining 120 acres. 3. That the total cost of 826,500 be taken from park D.C.C. charges. Carr~i The Committee was informed that the present amount in park D.C.C. is 41,250,000. The next major project to come out of this account is the purchase of Skyline Park at a cost of 4111,200.00. The other parksite to be purchased from Western Mortgage and Genstar are a few years away from completion. Short Term Regional Park Priorities The letter !rom the G.V.R.D. was reviewed by the Committee. 'hat Colony Farm be revisited as a possible regional park. Carri~ fit the criteria laid out by the G.V.R.D. for regional parks. However, it would make sense to work with the G.V.R.D. to have the trail system identified as a regional trail system. The Naster Plan recommended that we work towards this end with the G.V.R.D. Carried AUG LO 1991 Item No. 6 Beedie Constructioa Ltd. Carlos Felip outlined to Committee the proposed industrial development between Coast Neridian and Kingsway. Nr. Beedie wishes to subdivide his property and he is working with the Planning Department to create a buffer zone between the proposed frontage road and the river. It will work out to appror imately 5X of land tn park. However, a it is also being proposed that the City purchase small parcel of land, (appromimately 1/2 acre), at the S.W. corner of the industrial site. This piece of land would be used as a park node along the PoCo Trial. The Naster Plan identified PoCo Trail as a high priority for the City to develop and that the concept of park nodes at strategic locations along the trail be introduced. Reggmmendationg: 1) That a memorandum be sent to B.R. Kirk recommending the purchase of 1/7 acre of land at the S.W. corner of the industrial site. 2) That rhe monies for this land be taken from perk D.C.C. charges and that the land be identified as parkland. ~ri Item No. 7 Possible Joint Council Neeting with Goquitlam Council The Committee discussed various projects that could be part of a joint meeti:.d with Coquitlam Council.
