Terrace Minor Hockey awards its best Entered The “MENS LOGGERS BONSPIEL” Yet??

TERRACE MINOR Hock-
ey held their annual awards
banquets April 5-6, to cap
off another successful year
of minor hockey in Terrace,

Players spent one final
evening together with their
teams to have dinner and
enjoy a wonderful awards
ceremony.

Last Wednesday,. all
players in initiation and no-
vice divisions gathered at
the Thornhill Community
Centre to recognize players,
coaches, and volunteers
who added to the great year
of hockey.

Coach Tom Turner won
the John Dodd Memorial
Trophy, for being their most
inspirational coach.

In all divisions, each
team awarded three Esso
Medals of Achievement.
One award was for the most
dedicated player on the
team, another for the most
improved, and finally one
for the most sportsmanlike.

Also on Wednesday
evening was another ban-
quet, featuring players
from the bantam and midget
house divisions, along with
our three rep teams — pee-
wee, bantam, and midget.

In bantam house, Danny
Erickson won the most im-
proved player overall and
Tyler Latimer won the mid-
get honse award. Midget

Gary Kerbrat was the most
improved rep player.

The Wayne L’Estrange
Memorial Trophy is awar-
ded annually to the most in-
spirational rep player. There
was one naminee from each
team. Josh Murray from the
bantam reps won this year's
award.

Another major award
was the Len Trudeau Mem-
orial Traphy in recognition
of the player who best ex-
emplifies dedication, desire,
and discipline, Lance Arm-
strong was this year's mid-
pet Tep winner.

The Coaches Award for
ihe most consistent player is

awarded to not one, but two

players — one from house
and one from a rep team.

There was one nominee
from each of the peewee,
bantam, and midget house
jeagues, as well as nomi-
nees from each of the rep
teams. Brian Todd won the
house division and J.J.
Duben won the rep award.

Another award alsa
awarded to two players was
the Lew Larmour Memorial
Trophy. The award goes a
player on the peewee and
bantam Winter Games
teams who best exemplify
honesty, integrity, skill and
dedication to his team mem-
bers. Jordan Wall won the
peewee trophy and Tyler
Sheasby won the bantam
award.

Before I mention the re-

maining awards, I would -

like to congratulate bantam
house teams Lakelse Log-
ging, Skeena Cablevision,
and Remax, for finishing
first, second, and third, in
the bantam house playoffs.
Finishing fourth was Randy
Heaman Trucking.

Also deserving recogni-
tion were our rep teams. All
the rep teams went to the
provincials this year. The

peewees and bantams won:
the zone championships and
our midgets were given a
"bye" into the provincials as
Terrace was the host city of
the event. The pecwees
went to Dawson Creek dur-
ing spring break, the ban-
tams went to Salmon Arm,
and of course the midgets
hosted the provincials here,
Two awards are given to
coaches. One was the 3M
Coaching Award for the
coach who has contributed
most io coaching develap-
ment in Terrace Minor

rep team coach, John Amos,
won this year’s award,

The other award is the
Coach of the Year award,
Every year, there are many
nominees for this award.
Kevin Fletcher, coach of the
bantam Winter Games team
won this year's litle.

Another important award
is the Larry Swanson Mem-
orial Trophy. This trophy is
given to a graduate player
of Terrace Minor Hockey
who makes the most valu-
able contribution to the de-
velopment of hockey in
Terrace. This year's winner
was Andrew Tait.

The night’s big award
was the President's Award.
This award is selected by
the president and is awarded
lo a member of Terrace
Minor Hockey for their out-
standing and dedicated ser-
vice to local hockey.

Chris Gunnlaugson, the
recipient of this award, star-
ted off the year as a division
head and ice coordinator,
later being replaced by
others. He continued to be
the organization's first vice
president, as well as being a
coach and a referee, That’s
a lot of work!

The final awards cerem-
ony for the 1999/2000 sea-
son was held on Thursday.

peewee house divisions
gathered for their award
ceremonies,

In the atom division
playoffs, there was a first
place tie between Copper-
side Foods and Rotary.
There was also a tie for sec-
and, between The Bargain
Shop and Centennial Lions,

In the peewee house di-
vision, Skeena Sawmills
claimed first place in the
playoffs, Ken's Trucking
finished second, and Farw-
est Fuels placed third. Ken's
Trucking also won the regu-
lar season with 30 points,
11 more than second place
Skeena Sawmills.

The atom development
team travelled to Kitimat
for a year-end tournament
and finished first place. The
peewee Winter Games team
travelled to Duncan during
spring break, for the Chal-
lenge Cup tournament.

Goaltender Travis Gor-
iak won the most improved
player award in the atom di-
vision.

The most improved play-
er for peewee house divi-
sion, Amandeep Parmar
was a unanimous decision
by all peewee coaches.

Lastly, the Gordon E.
Armstrong Memorial Tro-
phy, for the most inspira-
tional player in the atom di-
vision, was awarded to Tay-
