The owners of the dog, ~~ however, have been warned of their. liability if a similar event occurs in the future. ‘According to Terrace animal control officer Frank Bowsher, the incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27 when a young boy with his dog: on a leash headed downtown to do some shopping. He tied the dog outside: Northern Drugs, - and .shortly afterward the girl -Tan up to the dog and was at- tacked. It’s not that the dog was _ vicious, says Bowsher, it was just.a matter of a dog in un- familiar surroundings being ap- ' proached too quickly by a stranger, It was an unfortunate inci- dent, ‘says Bowsher, but at the same time it may be a timely Books wanted by Child | Development Centre - Anyone clearing out titles in their personal library is invited . to take children’s books that would otherwise be discarded to’ “the Terrace Child Development Centre... ’ Administrator Margot Hayes says the center is starting a book-loan program for its pre- - school clients. If the injuries had been more serious, the. owner could have been charged and the dog may have been destroyed. " ‘The basic rule of thumb under first bite and is destroyed on the second. Depending on the severity of the attack, however, this is not. always the case. Any time an animal is determined vicious it can be shot on sight — even though it may have been a loving friendly pet for years — and there are city bylaws that cover these situations. » - Even with these existing laws, though, Bowsher says there is a more precise and with more severe penalties.
