It is an annual exhibition the whole family can attend and more: you can par- ticipate! by Thora Arnold-Smith and Janny Wassink The Fall Fair is a show where flowers, fruits, vegetables, home pro- duce and baking are dis- played in a friendly com- petition; artwork, han- dicrafts, photography, needlecrafts, animals and pets also have a place at the fair. Each section is design- ed to encourage local skills and showmanship; there really is something for everyone. Young and old learn about preparing exhibits and showing their animals. Viewers often become exhibitors in the following years’ fair, which is why such events © continue to grow and im- prove. For our summer readers, we are going to test an accelerated format, This way we can quickly Witness (R): Rating k xk & A thriller of rare quality. It is actually three movies in one: a police drama, a romance, and a documentary on the Amish people. In fact, Har- rison Ford’s interaction with these people is so engrossing that you almost wish they had dropped the police drama; but that wouldn’t sell, would it. Once Upon a Time in the West (PG) Rating * w¥k* I don’t know. Every time this film comes on TV, I’ll watch it. I just never seem to tire of the incredi- ble style which Sergio Leone puts into this western epic. Admittedly, this is a cult film. I guess I’m just part of that cult which it has captured, even if the guns sound like cannons. Fright Night (R): Rating *# *& * * It had to happen sometime; a horror flick with a devious knack for the humorous. Part fright-film, part parody, this movie raises itself above the ‘‘dulldrums’’ of the horror medium and is just good fun. All this with the simple premise of a vam- pire moving in next door, Interesting characters, good special-effects, and a reasonable soundtrack make Fright Night a must see. From the sword on the string to a reject Ninja-Mummy who imitates Risky Business (R): Rating kkk * __ As far as teenage films may go, this one seems to begin where most leave off. In this production, all seems very well put together. The Breakfast Club (R): Rating k¥x#*«* Sometimes a movie comes around that really hits the nail on the head, and i in my opinion, this is that movie. Like most reviewers say about The Killing Fields, “if you see one movie a year, see this one’ I could watch this film time after time. THE WORST BETS (Unless you like losing bets). Sorceress (R): Rating (not on your life) To elaborate on such a movie, if it can be called that, I will give you some simple bureaucratical opi-. nions: Acting — no comment; script — no com- ment; special effects — nothing special; style — you try finding some. Gymkata (R): Rating (one big backflip). To explain my rating: the film should go ‘‘back”’ to where it came from and ‘‘flipped” so they can find some way to tape on the other side of the cassette, Gymkata takes a world gymnastic performer and gives him a circus for a stage. Plot seems to be a forbidden word and acting a taboo art form. the best ever. edhe ee ee de ER RK EER | Your message from the stars...
