regain popularity in England in

This year Canadian designers

The eternity ring traditionally
given ta mark the birth of a
child is also often used to say

Misleading price
advertising

expressed strong concern about

‘certain. types of misleading
... price advertising.

“We are seeing far too much

advertising at the retail level

.which stresses price savings in

os. -very questionable ways," said
- the Minister.

“Some stores seem to have

‘continuous ‘sales’, sometimes -

urider ‘different names like
‘Manager’s Sate’, ‘End of In-
yentory Sale’, and similar
descriptions. With so many
sales, one wonders. if these

 slores have any regular prices.

And, in fact, we quite often find
that’ a so-called sale price. is
really a normal pricé, or very
cloge to it.

“Other retailers are leaning
heavily towards using certain
price reference terms which
have a great potential for
misleading consumers. They.
like to ‘use’ such .lerms as
‘previously marked' -and
‘suggested list’. Others con-

‘slantly scream about ‘gigantic -

savings’. or ‘every day sale
prices’, while some dealers
follow ihe ‘factory to you’ line.”

“All consumers want to save
money, and we encourage them
to shop wisely,’ Ms. Young
said. ‘But they can do this

of the disturbing trend in price
advertising, the Minister has
reminded business. that the
Department of Consumer
Services can and will enforce
the Trade Practices Act in the
area of misleading price ad-
verlising.

“The Act benefits beth con-'
sumers and Lhose businesses
that ‘should net have to put up
with unscrupulous compelitors.
We intend to help out both
‘groups,’ Ms, Young said. “I
am also asking the media -
particularly newspapers, T.V.
and radio - to pay careful at-
tention to the advertising capy
they receive for publication.”

Obituary
Margaret Steele

The death of Mrs. Margaret
Steele of Terrace, B.C. occurred
‘jn the Prince Rupert Regional
Hospital on November 29th at
the age of 68.

Mrs, Steele was born in Sault
Ste, Marie and moved west in
the early 20°8 where she spend
most of her life in Kindersley
before: moving ta the coast in
1952. ‘

She is survived by her loving
husband, Clarence, and
daughters, Mrs. Joan Kennedy
and Mrs. Shirley Jamieson, also

~- her twa sans, Richard and

‘Melvin and seven grand- |
children all. of Terrace.

Also survived by sisters, Mrs.
‘Doris Francour of Kindersley
and Mrs, Frances Goheen of
New West, and brothers Gearge
and Hilary Missere of Kin-
dersley and Henry of Thunder
Bay, .
Funeral services were held in
Sacred Heart Catholic Church
with Father Allison cfflciating.
