division of Consumer and
Corporate Affairs Canada
responsible for — the
registration of Patents,
Copyrights, Trade Marks

and Industrial Designs.

right to make, use and sell an
invention for 17 years. After
that, the patent expires and
anyone may produce or sell
the invention.

Confusion often arises over
the difference between a
patent and a copyright. A
copyright protects artistic
works such as books,
