In fact, one of the largest ozone plants in the world is here in North America. This plant is located
in the city of Los Angeles, where over 3 million inhabitants drink water disinfected with ozone,

and have been done so for many years with excellent results.

In Quebec, 23 municipalities are at present using ozone to purify their water. Also, New York,
Dallas, Paris, Moscow, Amsterdam, Madrid, and Zurich are among the many jurisdictions using
ozone. Ozone is also used by most water bottling plants right here in the Lower Mainland. The
U.S.A. does not allow importation of bottled water unless first purified with ozone. Closer to

home, ozone is used in the new Eileen Dailly swimming pool, located in Burnaby.

The GVRD has dismissed ozone, because it cannot be used as a secondary disinfectant as it does
not maintain a residual in the distribution system ... "We don't believe the GVRD has looked at

this issue as seriously as they could have."

With ozone, there is:

. noneed for dechlorinating water prior to discharge into a storm drain

no need to install ammonia removal facilities

a cost factor rougbly the same as for chloramination
