THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM Kirk, Administrator FROM: T.M. Chong, P. Eng., City Engineer SUBJECT: Walkway Adjacent to 1495 Elinor Crescent (Public Works Committee Meeting July 5, 1988) Recommendation: That an additional $5,000 be approved for the upgrading of The walkway adjacent to 1495 Elinor Crescent and that this amount be funded from the 1988 Unallocated Public Works Capital Budget. Background and Comments: The upgrading of the gravel walkway adjacent to 1495 Elinor Crescent was a capital project approved by Counci! earlier this year based upon recommendations from last year's and this year's Public Works Committees. The present condition of this walkway jis very steep, exceeding 24% in some sections. The surface jis loose |imestone gravel which local residents find very slippery. The use of this walkway by senior citizens would be particularly difficult. The proposed upgrading work consists of paving this walkway and the installation of metal handrails. The preliminary estimate for this work without the benefit of a design was $6,000. Recently, a detailed estimate has been prepared based upon design drawings and a thorough field assessment. Due to the steeg slope and the confined working area, special equipment and much manual labour will be required to undertake this work. The revised cost for the proposed work is $11,000. Hence, an additional $5,000 is required. To date work on site has not commenced pending a dec from Council to proceed Oy : TM.
